Where to Eat in Colorado Springs: Local Favorites & Unique Restaurants You Have to Try

When people think about Colorado Springs, the first things that usually come to mind are Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, hiking, mountain views and maybe the Air Force Academy.

But there's another reason to love living in Colorado Springs: the food!

Colorado Springs has developed a really fun restaurant scene, with everything from longtime local institutions to hidden underground restaurants and places where you can literally eat dinner inside an airplane.

As a Colorado Springs Realtor, I love sharing the things that make our city such a great place to live—not just the houses and neighborhoods. So whether you're visiting for a weekend, relocating to Colorado Springs, or you've lived here for years, here are some local restaurants worth adding to your list.

The Rabbit Hole

📍 101 N Tejon St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903

If you're looking for one of the most unique restaurants in Colorado Springs, start here.

The Rabbit Hole is hidden underground in Downtown Colorado Springs and has a whimsical Alice in Wonderland-inspired atmosphere. You enter at street level and head downstairs into a moody, eclectic dining space that feels completely different from your typical restaurant.

It's especially popular for date nights, celebrations and taking friends or family who are visiting Colorado Springs.

A few things to try: Rabbit Meatloaf, Buffalo Ribs, Carrot Cake and one of their signature cocktails.

Why it's popular: The food is great, but the atmosphere is what makes The Rabbit Hole memorable. It's the kind of place visitors will still be talking about after their trip.

Shuga's

📍 702 S Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903

Shuga's is one of those restaurants that just feels like Colorado Springs.

Located just south of downtown in a converted neighborhood grocery store, Shuga's is colorful, quirky, casual and a little eclectic.

The menu includes globally inspired soups, sandwiches, salads, cocktails and small plates, but there's one menu item that has become especially well known: their Spicy Brazilian Coconut Shrimp Soup.

A few things to try: Spicy Brazilian Coconut Shrimp Soup, the Café Tray, Cuban-style sandwiches and Almond Butter Cake.

Why it's popular: Shuga's has personality. It's relaxed enough for lunch but fun enough for a casual date night, and its patio is fantastic when Colorado gives us one of those gorgeous sunny afternoons.

Edelweiss German Restaurant

📍 34 E Ramona Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80905

Want to feel like you left Colorado Springs and somehow ended up in Bavaria?

Head to Edelweiss.

This longtime family-owned Colorado Springs restaurant serves traditional German and European food in a cozy Old World setting. There's even a biergarten that's perfect during warmer Colorado weather.

And whatever you do, save room for dessert.

A few things to try: Wiener Schnitzel, Jägerschnitzel, Bratwurst, Sauerbraten, Black Forest Cherry Torte and German Chocolate Cake.

Why it's popular: Edelweiss has been part of the Colorado Springs dining scene for decades. Between the food, atmosphere and desserts, dinner here feels like an experience rather than just another meal.

The Airplane Restaurant

📍 1665 Newport Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80916

Yes, you can actually eat inside an airplane in Colorado Springs.

The Airplane Restaurant incorporates a real 1953 Boeing KC-97 tanker, and diners can sit inside the aircraft.

Considering Colorado Springs' strong military and aviation history, it's an especially fun restaurant to experience while you're here.

A few things to try: Burgers, sandwiches and classic American comfort-food options.

Why it's popular: You're eating inside an airplane! It's especially fun for kids, aviation enthusiasts and anyone looking for something they probably can't do back home.

King's Chef Diner

📍 131 E Bijou St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903

Come hungry.

King's Chef is a longtime Colorado Springs favorite known for huge breakfasts, plenty of personality and, most importantly, Colorado green chile.

This isn't the place for a tiny breakfast before your hike. It's the place you go when you've already done the hike and you're starving.

A few things to try: Breakfast burritos, hearty breakfast plates and pretty much anything you can reasonably cover in green chile.

Why it's popular: Big portions, a funky atmosphere and classic Colorado-style breakfast food.

503W

📍 503 W Colorado Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80905

If you like restaurants that get a little creative with their food, add 503W to your list.

This locally owned restaurant combines American comfort food with Asian and Korean-inspired flavors. It's casual, fun and a good example of how diverse the Colorado Springs food scene has become.

A few things to try: Nitro Stout Braised Short Ribs, spicy miso ramen and Asian-inspired appetizers and shareables.

Why it's popular: Interesting flavors, good cocktails and a neighborhood atmosphere make it a favorite for a casual night out.

Fargo's Pizza

📍 2910 E Platte Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80909

Fargo's is pure Colorado Springs nostalgia.

The restaurant has an elaborate Victorian and Old West atmosphere that makes you feel like you've walked into another era.

Generations of Colorado Springs families have celebrated birthdays and family dinners here, so Fargo's is more than a pizza restaurant for a lot of locals.

A few things to try: Pizza, the salad bar and classic pizza-parlor favorites.

Why it's popular: The atmosphere and nostalgia. Restaurants like Fargo's just don't exist in many places anymore.

Urban Egg

📍 28B S Tejon St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903

If brunch is your thing, Colorado Springs has you covered.

Urban Egg is a popular breakfast and brunch spot right in Downtown Colorado Springs, making it an easy place to grab breakfast before exploring downtown, Garden of the Gods or heading into the mountains.

A few things to try: Eggs Benedict, pancakes, huevos rancheros and biscuits and gravy.

Why it's popular: Creative breakfast choices, generous portions and a convenient downtown location.

The Warehouse Restaurant & Gallery

📍 25 W Cimarron St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903

If you're visiting Colorado and want something that feels a little more…Colorado…The Warehouse is worth checking out.

The restaurant combines an art-filled warehouse atmosphere with contemporary Colorado and Southwestern-inspired cuisine.

You'll often find regional flavors and ingredients represented on the menu.

A few things to look for: Seasonal game dishes, steaks and dishes featuring Pueblo green chile.

Why it's popular: It's a great combination of art, atmosphere and Colorado-inspired food, making it especially fun for out-of-town visitors.

Which Colorado Springs Restaurant Should You Try First?

That's the hard part!

For a unique Colorado Springs dining experience, I'd start with The Rabbit Hole, Shuga's, Edelweiss or The Airplane Restaurant.

If you're craving a big Colorado breakfast, try King's Chef. If you're looking for creative food and cocktails, check out 503W. And if you're bringing the kids—or you're feeling nostalgic for old-school Colorado Springs—Fargo's Pizza is worth experiencing.

One of my favorite things about Colorado Springs is that there's always another neighborhood, hiking trail, coffee shop or restaurant to discover.

And that's part of what makes living here so much fun.

Thinking About Moving to Colorado Springs?

If you're researching restaurants because you're considering moving to Colorado Springs, I'd love to help you discover the rest of the city too.

I'm Shannon Price, a Realtor in Colorado Springs, and I help buyers understand our neighborhoods, the local housing market and what it's actually like to live here.

Whether you're relocating to Colorado Springs, PCSing to one of our local military installations, buying your first home or simply starting to explore Colorado Springs real estate, I'm happy to help.

Because finding the right home isn't just about the house.

It's about finding the neighborhood, restaurants, hiking trails, coffee shops and community that make a city feel like home.
