Southern Colorado Activities Scott Coddington October 2, 2026
October is here, and Southern Colorado is starting the month with a packed calendar of fall festivals, pumpkin patches, concerts, sporting events, and family activities.
Whether you're looking for something to do in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Pueblo West, or the surrounding Pikes Peak region, here are some events worth checking out during the first week of October.
October 2–4 | Colorado Springs
Start October with a classic Colorado fall tradition at Venetucci Farm.
Pumpkin Fest provides families an opportunity to enjoy the farm, celebrate the fall season, and, of course, get into pumpkin season.
The event continues on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout much of October, so don't worry if you can't make it during the first weekend.
October 2 | Downtown Colorado Springs
October is Arts Month in the Pikes Peak region, making First Friday a great way to start the month.
Explore downtown galleries, museums, exhibits, restaurants, and local businesses while experiencing some of Colorado Springs' arts and cultural community.
The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is also part of the Arts Month kickoff.
October 2–3 | Colorado Springs
Looking for something a little different?
Concrete Couchella brings together music, art, food, and activities during the first weekend of October.
It's another option for enjoying Colorado Springs while supporting local arts and entertainment.
October 2–4 | Colorado Springs Area
Bluegrass fans can kick off October with a weekend of live music at the Buffalo Grass Bluegrass Music Festival.
Fall weather and live music make this another event worth adding to the first weekend's calendar.
October 2 | Colorado Springs
Hockey season is back.
Colorado College takes on UMass on October 2, providing sports fans an opportunity to see the CC Tigers in action.
If you're new to Colorado Springs and haven't experienced a Colorado College hockey game yet, October is a good time to check one out.
October 2 | Pikes Peak Center
Looking for an October date night?
The Colorado Springs Philharmonic presents Music of the Knights at the Pikes Peak Center.
Combine the performance with dinner downtown for a night out in the heart of Colorado Springs.
October 3 | Colorado Springs
The Harvest Festival at Rock Ledge Ranch is one of the first weekend's standout fall events.
Located next to Garden of the Gods, Rock Ledge Ranch provides a beautiful and historic Colorado Springs setting for celebrating the fall season.
If you've recently moved to Colorado Springs—or you're visiting the area—this is also a great opportunity to explore one of the city's most recognizable areas.
October 3 | Quail Lake
Here's one you don't see everywhere.
Costumes meet paddleboards and kayaks during the Witches & Ghouls Halloween Paddle at Quail Lake.
It's a fun way to start Halloween month while enjoying one of Colorado Springs' local outdoor spaces.
October 3 | Downtown Colorado Springs
October wouldn't be complete without a few ghost stories.
The Ghosts of Downtown Walking Tour combines local history with some of the stories surrounding downtown Colorado Springs' historic buildings and characters.
October 3 | U.S. Air Force Academy
One of the biggest sporting events of the weekend takes place when Air Force hosts Navy.
The Air Force Academy is an important part of the Colorado Springs community, and the Air Force-Navy rivalry makes this much more than an ordinary college football game.
October 3 | Weidner Field
Soccer fans can head downtown as the Colorado Springs Switchbacks take on Oakland Roots at Weidner Field.
With the stadium located downtown, it's easy to combine the match with dinner or drinks before or after the game.
October 3 | Ford Amphitheater
FOR KING + COUNTRY performs at Ford Amphitheater on October 3, giving Colorado Springs another major entertainment option during an already busy Saturday.
Beginning October 3 | Various Locations
Families interested in science, technology, engineering, and hands-on learning should check out the Colorado Springs Cool Science Festival.
Events take place at various locations throughout the region, and the festival continues through October 18.
October Saturdays | Western Museum of Mining & Industry
The Miners' Pumpkin Patch combines fall activities with one of northern Colorado Springs' unique historical attractions.
If you're looking for a family-friendly Saturday pumpkin activity, this is another one worth checking out.
October 3–4 | Cripple Creek
Want to make a day trip out of it?
Head into the mountains for the Cripple Creek Fall Festival.
October weather in the higher elevations can change quickly, but a mountain drive combined with a fall festival can make for a great Southern Colorado day trip.
Beginning October 3 | Royal Gorge Route Railroad, Cañon City
The Royal Gorge Route Railroad gets into the Halloween spirit with its Halloween Laser Light Show on select October dates.
A train ride through the Royal Gorge area combined with seasonal entertainment makes this another fun option if you're looking to venture outside Colorado Springs.
Colorado Springs isn't the only place starting October with a busy weekend.
October 2 | Pueblo Memorial Hall
Comedian and actress Leslie Jones brings her I'm Hot Tour to Pueblo Memorial Hall.
For adults looking for live entertainment, this is one of Pueblo's bigger events to kick off October.
October 3 | Pueblo Union Depot
Pueblo's Oktoberfest is one of the events I'd put near the top of the list this weekend.
Held at the historic Pueblo Union Depot, the celebration includes German food, beer, live music, traditional dancing, kids' activities, stein-hoisting competitions, and Oktoberfest festivities.
It's also a great excuse to spend some time exploring Pueblo's historic Union Avenue area.
October 3 | Lovell Park
Pueblo West starts October with Daddy Daughter Kickball at Lovell Park.
Designed for girls ages 5–13 and their dads or father figures, it's a fun community-oriented event and a good example of the smaller local activities happening throughout Pueblo West.
There's certainly no shortage of things to do during the first week of October.
You could spend Saturday at a pumpkin patch, watch Air Force football or the Switchbacks, visit Pueblo Oktoberfest, head into the mountains toward Cripple Creek, or start getting into the Halloween spirit.
One of the things I enjoy about living and working in Southern Colorado is how many completely different experiences are available within a relatively short drive.
If you're new to the area—or considering moving to Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Pueblo West, or one of the surrounding communities—local events like these are also a great way to experience the communities beyond simply looking at homes online.
I've lived in the Colorado Springs area for decades and have worked in real estate here since 1997. My team and I help buyers and sellers throughout Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Pueblo West, Monument, Black Forest, Falcon, Fountain, Woodland Park, Cañon City, and surrounding Southern Colorado communities.
